Read my lips.

Read my lips.

Winter can be murder on your lips, but so can summer..  Between the dryness and sun..  It’s also hard to know what will give you maximum results without constant re-application because no one wants to be that girl slathering on lipstick every 2 seconds.  I have tried to include on this list products that are on the more natural and with fewer ingredients as your lips are one of the most absorbent parts of your body.  (I'm forever scarred after reading an article about all of the side effects of putting foundation onto your lips.)  Here are some of my favorite lip products to help beat the winter chap and keep your lipstick looking fab!

Exfoliator

I love a good scrub, though there are some that can be too harsh on your skin it’s a good way to make sure your lips are prepped for the next day.  I like to use a scrub after I’ve brushed my teeth but before I put on all my face products as usually I end up getting water all over my face when washing it off.  If I’m in a pinch I’ll make my own with just some sugar and some lip balm, like an Aquaphor (which I’ll discuss later).  My two favorite scrubs are:

Brown Sugar Scrub from Fresh – I like this one because it’s soft on my lips and I love the brown sugar scent.  However it can be really oily and is definitely not a good option if you decide to scrub your lips before putting on lipstick.

Rose Lip Scrub from French Girl Cosmetics – I love this brand and have mentioned them on a previous post.  I like this scrub because it’s not too oily and goes on smoothly, it’s definitely less abrasive than the Brown Sugar Scrub.  All of their products are organic and that’s pretty awesome too.  I like that this one isn’t too oily so I can do a quick treatment if I wake up to my lips needing some extra TLC.

Lip Mask

I’ve also become pretty obsessed with LaNeige products and their lip scrub is one of my top favorites.  I throw it on before bed, and in the morning when I get out of the shower.  Once again the key with this product is I can use it before lipstick and it won’t run like some of the other moisturizers.  Even though it’s called a “mask” I use it full on as a moisturizer.

Aquaphor

This is a fairly standard product in people’s cabinet, I started using it in middle school when my most fashionable friend would swear all the models were using it.  I fell out of favor of it for a bit, but two years ago I had a reaction to a Nivea lip balm and my lips broke out into a rash.  The dermatologist told me to just avoid that product and to stick to Aquaphor since the ingredients are so few.  Within a few days my rash had cleared up, I know make sure I always have a tube by my bed, at work or in my bag!  I don’t recommend using it before lipstick because it will cause the lipstick to run.

Lip Primer

Now for the grand finale, once you’ve been taking good care of your lips, lipstick will be a breeze and to make sure it stays in place and lasts long: always make sure to use a Lip Primer.  I love the one by MAC.  With this product make sure to apply it to your lips and let it dry for about 2 minutes, it is ideally used when it’s tacky to make sure it grips to the lipstick.

Let me know what lip stuff you like or would like me to try!

Happy Smooching!
